Have you recently felt like you were struck by lightning? Has your world been turned upside down and left you not knowing what to do or which direction to take? When we are struck by significant change in our life, our world can feel like a roller coaster. Everything can feel like it's upside down, spinning too fast, or as if we are climbing Mount Everest! That awful feeling of being out of control can be the important catalyst we need to get off that roller coaster. So how do we stop the spinning so we can regain our balance and start fresh for the new journey ahead? In my work as a Spiritual Guide and Transpersonal coach I often hear about the challenges and changes people go through, which can lead people down a path of feeling confused and disempowered. These challenges become the opportunity or the turning point where we can create powerful transformation, personally and professionally.
Change is a part of life, but personal transformation and evolution is where we experience it more deeply. In that moment of change our world may feel like it has been turned upside down, or morphed into a completely different reality. Perhaps it's because the change we're going through is about closing one chapter in our life and entering a new chapter or portal for a new way of being. What we were experiencing before is either no longer relevant or possible, because our circumstances have shifted, or we have decided to change direction. Sometimes the change is expected, and other times, it can come to us as a shock. It could be a change in a relationship, financial loss, restructuring of our work environment or business, a change in our position professionally, personally or socially; or it could be an unexpected health issue for ourselves or others close to us. When change happens, it can leave us feeling bewildered, disempowered and even disconnected from ourselves and the people we care about. Our self-esteem may take a hit, and we may feel a loss of energy, enthusiasm and focus. Change is common, and most people can readily adapt to incremental changes and move on without too much disturbance to their life. However, there are times when a more radical change in our life can have a greater impact on our mental, emotional and physical well-being. Previously I’ve spoken about how we can turn our challenges into powerful opportunities. This strategy helps us to build resilience and fortitude, and it begins with the realisation that power is within our control. We learn that we can choose how we perceive our circumstances; we can choose what to believe about ourselves and others, we can choose how we want to feel (rather than what we don't want to feel), and we can create a plan for how we are going to move forward - aka - get stuff done - live life - and be on purpose!!! If we choose to succumb to negative thinking, it can lead to more feelings of 'stuckness', poor decision-making, and missed opportunities. This kind of mental focus is detrimental to our well-being, and lowers our internal drive to achieve our purpose and make progress in life. A few signs that we have allowed ourselves to lose our personal power include:
Transformation is a choice. It’s the decision we make to turn our adversities and challenges into powerful opportunities, because we want to make improvements and progress in our lives. If life has been giving us lemons, let’s go out and make lemonade (sorry I had to sneak that one in)! Where we choose to focus, what we choose to think about, how we interpret events, people or situations, and what we choose to believe about ourselves, can be either our KRYPTONITE or our ROCKET FUEL. Which one is it for you? This is the moment we can choose a different pathway, a new way of living, a renewed sense of our identity and purpose in life. It’s the moment we choose personal leadership over being a puppet in our own life. When you “change your story, you can change your life”. So what’s the formula? Step one: Decide to commit to yourself! You matter and you're worth it. We need you in this world. Step two: Have a vision for what you want and where you’re going. See it in colour and let your imagination have fun with this. Step three: Create a plan for the road trip ahead! It's going to be a fun ride! There’s no point feeling momentarily inspired if you don’t know where you’re going, and you don’t have a roadmap to get there. As my partner Jerome Lamarque says “Vision precedes strategy”. When you have these two things sorted, you are on a winning pathway to fulfilment in your life. Personal empowerment is not reserved for the elite, it's within everyone’s reach, even in the toughest of times. If you need a guide for the journey, let me know. Sometimes we need a little assistance with the navigation for our new journey, and once we’re on the road, with our roadmap to get us there - you can now focus on enjoying the ride! And while you're doing your thing, to get to where you need to go, remember to take a moment to notice how far you've come! There's nothing more fulfilling than the feeling of progress!
